João dos Santos Couceiro & Brother was the company name of the shop and manufacture of musical instruments called “A Rabeca de Ouro” (The Golden Rabeca). This business was founded in 1872 by Abílio Couceiro (1851-1905). He was born in Coimbra and immigrated to Brazil in the same year he opened the shop. Some of the instruments made by the João dos Santos Couceiro & Brother brand won prizes in Portugal, in Brazil, and in Philadelphia, Paris and Turin.
